Thus, our preparation for an eternal marriage must include repenting, learning, acquiring faith, and developing the security that comes with a vision of our potential as children of a Heavenly Father. Only when we love God above all others, as the Savior taught (see�Matt. 22:34�40), will we be capable of offering pure, Christlike love to our companions for all eternity.

If you and I would truly pray and ask in faith, as did Joseph Smith�if we would pray with the expectation to act and not just to express�then the work of proclaiming the gospel would move forward in a remarkable way. Such a prayer of faith might include some of the following elements:

-Thanking Heavenly Father for the doctrines and ordinances of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, which bring hope and happiness into our lives.
-Asking for courage and boldness to open our mouths and share the gospel with our family and friends.
-Entreating Heavenly Father to help us identify individuals and families who will be receptive to our invitation to be taught by the missionaries in our homes.
-Pledging to do our part this day and this week and petitioning for help to overcome anxiety, fear, and hesitation.
-Seeking for the gift of discernment�for eyes to see and ears to hear missionary opportunities as they occur.
-Praying fervently for the strength to act as we know we should.

This same pattern of holy communication and consecrated work can be applied in our prayers for the poor and the needy, for the sick and the afflicted, for family members and friends who are struggling, and for those who are not attending Church meetings.

Consider, for example, the Savior�s benediction upon his disciples even as he moved toward the pain and agony of Gethsemane and Calvary. On the very night of the greatest suffering the world will ever know, he said, �Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: � Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid� (John 14:27).

That may be one of the Savior�s commandments that is, even in the hearts of otherwise faithful Latter-day Saints, almost universally disobeyed; and yet I wonder whether our resistance to this invitation could be any more grievous to the Lord�s merciful heart.

I can tell you this as a parent. As concerned as I would be if one of my children were seriously troubled or unhappy or disobedient, nevertheless I would be infinitely more devastated if I felt that at such a time that child could not trust me to help, or should feel his or her interest were unimportant to me or unsafe in my care.

In that same spirit I am convinced that none of us can appreciate how deeply it wounds the loving heart of the Savior when he finds his people do not feel confident in his care or secure in his hands or trust in his commandments.

As I have listened to the women in the Stake, I have become concerned at the level of anxiety that is expressed over the many challenges and decisions facing them. I have become troubled over the lack of peace in their lives. It is starkly apparent to me that the amount of peace we have in our lives is in direct proportion to the amount of trust we have in the Savior. Peace will not come by fixing the apparently broken aspects of our lives. There will always be something in our lives that appears to be broken, because remember, that is the plan and we should not want it to be cut short before we reach perfection. Peace comes when we want it to. It comes because we let go our our control and hand it over to Him. It comes because we are constantly seeking the Holy Ghost and have tested its guidance sufficiently to not worry about the broken and undone aspects of our lives because we are attending to that which we are directed to attend. It comes because we know that the Atonement is constantly and persistently active in our lives because our hearts and desires are facing the right direction and because of this we do not panic over our weaknesses. It comes because in this state of being, our lives are sufficiently sensitive and aligned to permit the Holy Ghost to act as comforter as it is promised to us. It comes because we have that unique sense of time that has ultimate hope in the future, and has the capacity to accept each day as it passes. We make it happen as we trust the Savior.

So, I leave you with this question;

Do we trust the Savior sufficiently to allow some things to be left undone in our lives?

I pray that we will trust in Him sufficiently to find peace.

We live in a day when the adversary stresses on...

We live in a day when the adversary stresses on every hand the philosophy of instant gratification. We seem to demand instant everything, including instant solutions to our problems. We are indoctrinated that somehow we should always be instantly emotionally comfortable. When that is not so, some become quite anxious - and all too frequently seek relief from counseling, from analysis, and even from medication.

It was meant to be that life would be a challenge. To suffer some anxiety, some depression, some disappointment, even some failure is normal. Teach our members that if they have a miserable day once in a while, or several in a row, to stand steady and face them. Things will straighten out. There is great purpose in our struggle in life.
