You must learn the principles of the Constitution to abide by its precepts. You were instructed by the First Presidency in 1973 "to begin now to reflect more intently on the meanings and importance of the Constitution, and of adherence to its principles." What have you done about this instruction? Have you read the Constitution, pondered it? Are you aware of its principles? Could you defend it? Can you recognize when a law is constitutionally unsound? As a Church, we will no tell you how to do this, but we admonish you to do it.

The first principle is that our efforts to promote temple and family history work should be such as to accomplish the work of the Lord, not to impose guilt on his children. Members of this church have many individual circumstances—age, health, education, place of residence, family responsibilities, financial circumstances, accessibility to sources for individual or library research, and many others. If we encourage members in this work without taking these individual circumstances into account, we may do more to impose guilt than to further the work.

You can't live principles you can't understand.

Our principles are the springs of our actions; our actions the springs of our happiness or misery. Too much care, therefore, cannot be taken in forming our principles.

To get salvation we must not only do some things, but everything which God has commanded...The object with me is to obey and teach others to obey God in just what he tells us to do. It mattereth not whether the principle is popular or unpopular; I will always maintain a true principle even if I stand alone in it.

You may be flexible on strategy, but must remain consistent on principle.

Moderation in temper is always a virtue; but moderation in principle is always a vice.

I take it to be a principle rule of life, not to be too much addicted to any one thing.

The 7 Deadly Sins are: Wealth without work. Pleasure without conscience. Knowledge without character. Business without morality. Science without humanity. Worship without sacrifice. Politics without principle.

Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.
